The dual reality of empire and the business perspective have fueled the consumer economy. Consumption and the consumer economy are the constructions of empire. Consumption in the consumer economy is the core belief that whatever we have is not enough. If we do not have enough, then we are not enough. It is the belief that whatever you need, you can purchase. This is not just about physical goods, it also applies to the measures of well-being like raising a child, being safe and being healthy. This is the belief that is now unsustainable.
