Pioneering Space for the Commons
In the city of Peterborough, Ontario, The Mount Community Centre is repurposing what was once home to the Sisters of St. Joseph into housing, business and community space for a range of people, organizations and interests. The social hub is redefining community, writes Peter Pula of Axiom News.
“Members of the community issued a community bond, bought it back, and, as if hearing from the place itself recommissioned it for the sake of the commons, another way,” he shares. “In few other places has such a mammoth gesture in the direction of the commons been made.”
